As 6-year-old Alden Chiu sits on the bench of a large, black upright piano, his feet dangle nearly a foot from the floor. He is unable to reach and use the pedals or stop his restless legs from swinging anxiously below him. Alden’s tiny hands occasionally struggle to reach the keys required for a given chord. It seems as if most of his mistakes may be more a fault of his size rather than his youth or a lack of practice.
